Two years ago I learned about the importance of native plants and began converting the front lawn to a native perennial garden. I removed Rose of Sharon, Daylilies and ornamental grasses and with help of 80 yards of woodchips and lots of cardboard and newspaper, replaced much of it with natives. Winter sowing has helped me add lots of plants without spending tons of money.
