Large Ceanothus thyrsiflorus (common name Blueblossom) is the center of bee activity. One day I counted 8 different species of bees feeding on it. The bush literally hums with bee activity in the spring. The Amelanchier alnifolia (common name western serviceberry) is in the same bed and a good companion plant as it blooms later in the spring. This provides continuous food.
