Rollinsford Public Library

The Rollinsford Public Garden, with the help of the Rollinsford Gardening Club and our patrons, transformed a negalate patch of dirt at the end of the parking lot into a garden! Our library is located in an historic mill facing the Salmon Falls River.

When the mill's parking lot was last re-paved, asphalt was pushed into a small patch of dirt that had previously been planted with some daylillies. Some of the daylillies were still healthy and flowering, and some wilkweed plants had sprouted as well.

We dug out the asphalt and other detritus, covered the patch with new top soil. We left the surviving daylillies and all of the milkweed plants and added hostas, coneflowers, and catmint. To prevent runoff and erosion, the garden was covered with bark mulch! We used bricks that were unearthed as we prepared with patch to create a lovely border.

Now, instead of a bare patch of nothing, we have a colorful garden for our community to enjoy and for pollinators to visit!
