Saugerties Village Pollinator Garden
In the fall of 2021, the Saugerties Village Tree Commission began transforming an empty lot at the corner of Partition and Montross Streets into a vibrant community green space dedicated to pollinators, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship. Generously donated to the Village by the McKenney family, the former bus stop was reimagined as a “butterfly stop” and became part of the Pollinator Pathway and the Monarch Waystation Program — a national network of gardens that support and protect native pollinators and their habitats.
The Pollinator Garden was created to nurture local biodiversity while inspiring residents to learn about native plants, pollinator species, and the ecological importance of healthy urban habitats. The garden features native perennials, trees, and shrubs selected to bloom throughout the growing season, providing continuous food and shelter for butterflies, bees, birds, and other pollinators.
More than a garden, this space is part of a larger community effort to transform urban patches into thriving habitats that reconnect people with the natural world.
The Saugerties Village Tree Commission regularly welcomes volunteers to help care for the garden through watering, weeding, and seasonal maintenance.
