Pollinator Pathway

Ocean City

Upcoming Events 3.jpg

Welcome to the Ocean City, New Jersey, Pollinator Pathway supported by the Ocean City Environmental Commission (“Commission”). The Commission’s goal is to contribute to the development of pollinator gardens throughout the town. Our hope is to develop enough public and private gardens to create connecting and nurturing environments for butterflies, bees, and other insects. From garden to garden and town to town, it is also our intent to connect with neighboring Pathways.

The Commission developed a flourishing pollinator garden in 2022 at the City’s Bayside Center, an educational and environmental public site. The Commission has also developed and maintained a garden at the Tabernacle, a non-denominational community. Lastly, the Commission developed a third garden at The Shores at Wesley Manor, a United Methodist Community for residents with assisted living needs. Our first two gardens have already been certified as Monarch Waystations.

Part of the Commission’s goal includes engaging the community in an attempt to motivate and encourage individuals to plant their own pollinator garden. We accomplish this through seed giveaways, native and pesticide-free lectures, free “family fun” educational days, as well as partnering with the community.

Monarch Butterfly Waystation

The Commission, SEA, and Ocean City Tabernacle’s ARK Preschool partnered to educate, create, and maintain the pollinator garden. This garden was planted by the preschoolers with some adult help. The garden is now under continued development to add additional natives.

Bayside Center, 520 Bay Ave

OCEC, the City of Ocean City, the Ocean City High School’s Student Environmental Association (SEA) , and Discovery World Preschool partnered in this project to create a pollinator waystation and includes host plants for the Monarch.  In addition to educating our young preschoolers about the role of butterflies, bees and insects, the children took ownership of this project by planting and maintaining the garden, adding their own little touch with a few adorable bunny statues.

Wesley Manor Memorial Garden
2201 Bay Ave, Ocean City, NJ

The Commission and The Shores at Wesley Manor’s Garden Club participated in the planting of a pollinator garden—the first phase of The Shores’ plan to establish a memorial garden for residents who died as a result of the COVID pandemic. A. Guzzo Landscaping, LLC provided the plants and will maintain the gardens for this facility.
