We have stopped planting grass and plant several kinds of clover in our small front and back yards. If moss or other plants show up in the lawn, we either leave them or remove them by hand. We hand water when necessary and do not add any fertilizer or other products to the "lawn" area. We hand weed the gardens, but they are so thick, they don't require much weeding! We have many plants that are not native, but whenever we add plants to the yard now, we almost exclusively choose natives.
