Wonder Kids 596 Robert and Mary St, Grayson, KY 41143, USA Our native garden is a living classroom for Wonder Kids designed to showcase the beauty and importance of Kentucky’s native plants. This space is filled with diverse species that provide food and habitat for pollinators, demonstrate traditional uses, and highlight the resilience of local ecosystems. Children explore the garden to learn how native plants support butterflies, bees, and birds, while also discovering their cultural and practical uses. Through hands-on lessons, they see how these plants once sustained Appalachian families and how they continue to play a vital role in maintaining balance in nature. A few of the plants you’ll find here include: Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) – loved by pollinators and valued for its traditional medicinal uses. Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) – a hardy wildflower that brightens the landscape and feeds pollinators. Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa) – a pollinator magnet with historical uses as a tea. Milkweed (Asclepias spp.) – essential for monarch butterflies. Wild Bergamot (Monarda didyma) – fragrant and rich in nectar for hummingbirds and bees. Goldenrod (Solidago spp.) – Kentucky’s state flower, supporting late-season pollinators. Together, these plants create a vibrant outdoor classroom where children can connect with the land, learn about sustainability, and discover the deep ties between people, plants, and pollinators. Hope Farm & The Book Nook Hope Farm & The Book Nook has a creek in front covered in native plants such as Goldenrod, Mullein, bamboo, Sycamore, Queen Ann's lace, Purple Nettle & viaretu of wildflowers. It is a butterfly and hummingbird filled space. Cultivating Community Garden 200 Carol Malone Blvd, Grayson, KY 41143 Our pollinator pocket garden at the Cultivating Community Garden may be small, but it’s packed with purpose and personality. Nestled beside a historic log structure, this container-based garden features a cheerful mix of native and pollinator-friendly plants including wild petunia, yarrow, bee balm, goldenrod, sunflower, and honeyberry . Each one was chosen for its ability to attract bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects. One of our favorite successes is how quickly the pollinators found us—especially the bumblebees that can’t seem to get enough of the bee balm. The tall sunflower has become a neighborhood favorite, and the garden’s playful bee decor makes it a hit with children and passersby. We’ve had some challenges with heat stress and watering in containers, but community teamwork and consistent care have helped keep everything thriving. This garden shows that even a few pots and a wagon can become a vibrant, educational, and biodiverse space. It’s a joyful part of our larger mission to cultivate community through gardening. Pollinator Pathway New London New London Pollinator-Pathway is working with other cities and towns along the Connecticut shoreline to creating a corridor of native plants attractive to pollinators. A pollinator pathway closes gaps between properties and provides healthy habitat for bees, butterflies, birds and other pollinators. More than 30% of our fruits and vegetables require the help of bees and other pollinators to grow. Cucumbers, summer squash and watermelons are just three that need cross-pollination. Have a skill you can share with PPS? Get in touch ! There are a variety of ways to participate: Designate an area of any size that you will use for your pollinator garden. Pollinator gardens can be as small as a container garden or as big as a baseball field – it is up to you! Plan your garden, making sure to include at least three native species that will each bloom in Spring, Summer, and Fall. This ensures that pollinators have food for each season. Native plants increase wildlife diversity, while invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed spread quickly and crowd out natives, altering the ecosystem. Don’t use harmful pesticides or herbicides on your lawn or garden. In fact, if you plant native plants but also use pesticides, you will poison the pollinators that are attracted to your plants. They are also harmful to pets and people. Designate a part of your yard as a habitat for bees and other pollinators. Providing clean water and letting grass grow taller before mowing helps ground-nesting bees survive. Join other participants in planting pollinator gardens in public places or by helping others plant and maintain their pollinator gardens. Attend workshops and webinars organized by the steering committee or advertised on the New London Pollinator Pathway Facebook page. Create and offer activities to teach families about how much we rely on pollinators and understand why it is necessary to offer them a safe and inviting habitat in our city. - Hyde Park
Pollinator Pathway Hyde Park Welcome to the Hyde Park Pollinator Pathway! We are a part of the larger undertaking to create a corridor of adjacent properties, private and public, that provide safe habitat for wildlife. Our goal is to have Hyde Park represented on the pollinator pathway map, listing the private, commercial and municipal spaces dedicated to hosting native plants and maintaining sustainable, healthy habitats for birds, bees, butterflies, other pollinating insects and wildlife. The Hyde Park Pollinator Pathway connects to bordering towns participating in the Pathway project: Poughkeepsie, Rhinebeck, and Clinton. Hyde Park’s western Hudson River border creates a potential source of connectivity to neighboring pathways in Ulster county, as well! Hyde Park encourages community members to get involved with the local groups working to fulfill initiatives towards improving pollinator habitat and quality of air, water and soil. We hope that you will join the effort! The Hyde Park Visual Environmental Committee manages several hands-on projects throughout Hyde Park every year. The projects provide both aesthetic and environmental benefits to the community: maintenance of perennial roadside pocket gardens; preservation, protection, and maintenance of historic stone walls; restoration to green spaces and tree plantings. Hyde Park Garden Habitat is a gardening group led by stewards of the National Wildlife Federation’s Garden for Wildlife program. Hyde Park Garden Habitat has more than forty properties certified by the National Wildlife Federation including backyard gardens, business gardens/container gardens, churches, parks, public spaces and a schoolyard habitat garden. Hyde Park Garden Habitat received the Town Supervisor’s Monarch Pledge, which commits to creating habitat for the monarch butterfly and pollinators. The Hyde Park Conservation Advisory Council advises and provides support to the town of Hyde Park on environmental issues such as land use, energy, climate change and sustainability. Volunteers supervise various initiatives for healthy environmental practices: a community solar program, stream bank protection and stabilization, and reforestation efforts.
