Welcome to the Bloomfield Pollinator Pathway
Bloomfield Pollinator Pathway was formed in December of 2025 as a grassroots committee of residents and set up as a subcommittee of the Bloomfield Beautification Committee in order to allow for more townwide educational events and partnerships at our community center and libraries as well as to coordinate on projects with various town departments, our parks and open spaces, and our environmental planner.
Our focus in the first year has been on public education programming and outreach for our community. We started the year with our Kick Off event which brought out 60 residents to the community center on a cold February evening where we gathered to learn about the Pollinator Pathways initiative and what residents can do in their homes and how to get involved in our town at large.
The rest of our first year's programming included:
An educational presentation on Native Plants in partnership with Bloomfield's Prosser Library in the spring;
A littles and family STEM night at Wintonbury School;
A presentation created for Duncaster Senior Living Community on getting their campus involved in the initiative followed by a native plants container planting workshop where 20 of the residents came together to learn about native plants and create their own pollinator planters for balconies and patios
Upcoming fall programming for a woodland edge habitat restoration in Filley Park
We are also currently gearing up for our newest initiative to provide educational signage on the importance of open field habitats and meadows as well as edges and proper land management of them in partnership with our Parks Department to be installed for public education at Samuel Wheeler Reed Park and possibly LaSalette and Filley parks. Our hope is to educate residents on the precious plants and wildlife species that rely on these habitats and the importance of only mowing during certain windows. Our goal is to work with our town to embrace a stewardship approach to the management of our open spaces and parks and help the public understand and embrace the transition from frequently mowed spaces to natural ones.
We love seeing how engaged our community has been in this initiative and proud of all the programming and impacts our volunteers have delivered in our first year. Our hope is by the time we approach our anniversary at the end of this year, that we will have also mapped the many existing Pathway locations around our town and continue to drive our strategic programming and partnerships to see our pathways take shape and continue to ensure our community is ecologically sound and feels the benefits of our pollinator-safe landscapes and connections.
We are so grateful to all our volunteers and residents and to our various town staff and committees who have been supportive in giving us the ability to have such a successful start in our first year.
