Pollinator Pathway

Valhalla is home to The Native Plant Center at SUNY Westchester Community College, an important regional resource for native plants, sustainable gardening, and wildlife habitat. The Center manages more than two acres of teaching gardens on campus, showcasing more than 300 species of native plants and demonstrating how native landscapes can support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.

The gardens include the Lady Bird Johnson Demonstration Garden, with its native meadow and bird garden; the New American Cottage Garden, which shows how native plants can be incorporated into a more formal landscape; and a Rain Garden designed to capture and absorb stormwater. Together, these gardens provide valuable habitat while inspiring residents to bring native plants and sustainable practices into their own landscapes.

By connecting public spaces like these with residential gardens and other pesticide-free native plant habitats throughout the community, Valhalla can help create a continuous Pollinator Pathway for bees, butterflies, moths, birds, and other wildlife.
