Five years ago, in spring, we moved into our new home, which already boasted beds of blooming spring flowers. Their natural beauty inspired me to start planting, even though I wasn’t sure where to begin. My first venture was a wildflower bed, and over time, I expanded with several additional beds in both the front and back gardens.

In our backyard, we faced a persistent drainage issue—a roughly 20-by-20-foot area that consistently pooled water. Three years ago, we transformed that space by removing the lawn and planting a mix of native and pollinator-friendly plants. Today, that area has become one of my favorite spots. We also removed an invasive Norway maple that had long cast a shadow over the garden, allowing our native plants to thrive and fill the space with life.
