I learned to garden from my mother and many of the plants in my yard came from her ancestral home in Massachusetts over 100 years ago. Many , though not all , of my plants are native but all are chosen for their pollinator and wildlife friendly properties. I have blooming plants in my garden starting in February with early crocuses and snowdrops and continue well into December with my mother's daisy mums. these mums have over 35 different species of bees, butterflies and other insects at any given moment. i practice organic gardening using homemade compost and manure for soil augmentation. I do not rake in the fall and leave all the plant stems and stalks until spring when I cut them back to about 2 feet tall. We have a fish pond which gives a source of water all year round. We have patches of bare earth for ground bees.we have no lawn in the front of the house- just garden. There is limited lawn in the back for the dogs.
