My small zero-lot line yard has a tropical pollinator vibe and is a combination of native, Florida-friendly and non-native plants, flowers and shrubs. Some were established before I owned my home. My yard is very much alive with butterflies, bees, dragonflies, birds and other wildlife and they are all welcome.

I use no chemicals at all in my yard or around my home. My neighbors are very mindful of that and are careful with anything they do to their home and near my yard. My landscapers are also very cooperative and everyone knows not to bring chemicals in my yard.

My plantings, while some are new and still filling in, are adding to the natural beauty of the garden and attract many butterflies and bees. The small bit of grass in the front is cut by the landscapers, however the side and back yard I cut using a rotary mower as the grass area is kept longer and is getting smaller and smaller as my garden grows.

My home has 3 large sable palms front and center. I've added some tropical (non native) plants around it but have recently started focusing on adding native plants and more plants that are pollinator friendly including native milkweed (bringing many Monarch butterflies!), bush daisies, golden dewdrop. My lawn is sprinkled with frogfruit (bringing me White Peacocks that I have seen so far) and other native "weeds" that I love. I'm still working on it!

The side and back yard is more of the same—a combo or tropical and native and more focused on pollinators with passion vine for our Gulf Fritillary and Florida Zebra Longwings. I have a variety of milkweed and tropical plants and herbs that attract pollinators and birds. I have even seen one hummingbird but would love more! I keep water, bird baths and feeders in the yard and have a few areas where leaf litter collects regularly (hoping to see some lightning bugs again!)
