Most of the front yard converted to native meadow in 2018 and is alive with fireflies, dragonflies, various bees and wasps, butterflies and an annual late summer garden spider, Hawks hang out on the power lines checking the menu. Most of the backyard is unmown (the turkeys have breakfast on occasion) and the hillside is a combination of grasses, shrubs, groundcovers of native plants. The back is a work in progress with invasive removal and replacement with native shrubs, forbs, groundcovers, sedges.. Shrubs include Sambucus, Calycanthus, Hamamelis, Lindera (the latest round of invasive removal has uncovered several more small ones) native hydrangea varieties, Ilex verticillata, Corylus americana. Grasses and sedges fill in as well as native forbs that act as larval hosts and food for pollinators. Lots of seeds are available for local birds.
