We have a patch in front and a U-shaped garden in the back of our row home. We plant milkweeds of various varieties as host for Monarch butterflies and nectar for other fliers. Also, not native but bees, beetles, and butterflies have liked them in past years, we have passion flower vine, wild Queen Anne's lace, Mexican sunflowers, blue and red astilbe, clover, fennel, California poppy and zinnia elegans. And 3 cosmos plants that are 4 feet tall but haven't bloomed yet, too many cloudy days.
