The tree lawn is a woodland-inspired planting of mostly native plants in dry shade. The front garden is inspired by English gardens, especially the work of Gertrude Jekyll. It's north-facing and part shade. The east side yard and backyard include more native perennials, grasses and shrubs.

Tree lawn: white wood aster (Eurybia divaricata), goldenrods (Solidago spp.), wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis), foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia), hairy alumroot (Heuchera villosa), wild geranium (Geranium maculatum), and yellow wood poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum) with a Northern bush honeysuckle (Diervilla lonicera) shrub and a mature red maple (Acer rubrum 'Gerling')

Front garden shrubs: Brandywine viburnum (Viburnum nudum 'Bulk'), snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus), Hydrangea arborescens ‘Dardom’, weeping hemlock (Tsuga canadensis 'Pendula'), arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Bobozam' and Fire Chief), summersweet (Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird')

Front garden perennials: short-toothed mountain mint (Pycnanthemum muticum), foxglove beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis) and hairy beardtongue (P. hirsutus), crooked aster (Symphyotrichum prenanthoides), garden phlox (Phlox paniculata 'Jeana') and woodland phlox (P. divaricata), willow leaf bluestar (Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia), blue false indigo (Baptisia australus), harebell (Campanula rotundifolia)
