For 20 years I have been working to replace existing lawn and non-native trees and shrubs with a large diversity of native plants and trees. I have a wildflower meadow area as well as many native flowering trees and shrubs. I have installed two small ponds for water and I have also been working to weed out invasives and plant natives along a back easement I share with a local small creek bed. It has been incredibly rewarding to see the diversity of bugs, reptiles, and birds that have grown over the years!
Trees: Texas redbud, Mexican plum, Texas kidney wood, Mexican buckeye, rough leaf dogwood, flame leaf sumac. Burr oak, chinqapin oak, Montezuma cypress, crepe Myrtle, arroyo sweetwood, orchid tree, Texas persimmon, Mexican buckeye, yaupons
Shrubs: many different salvias, Turks cap, many yuccas, roses, mist flowers, lantana, Barbados cherry, sacred datura, prickly pear
Grasses: Indian sea oats, webberville sedge, lindheimer muhly, gulf muhly, bicolor iris.
Ground cover: woolly stemodia, frog fruit
