This home and gardens are our family property. My parents built the home in the late 70s and my husband and I purchased it from my mother in 2020. I grew up in the garden with my mom. She has award winning rose gardens that unfortunately did not survive Hurricane Elena in the 80s. The first thing my mother did when she got up in the morning was tend to her gardens. I follow in her footsteps but have also added edible plants and trees. Everything I have in the garden is FL friendly (mostly native and drought resistant). We use well water for the rare occassion we water ( from Jan-May about once every two weeks) and have a rain barrel for my herbs and vergetable garden. Currently we have olive trees, blackberry bush, beautyberry, bridal bouquet, fire-star orchids, crinums, several varieties of palms, maple, azaleas, gardenias, dandelion, morning glory, cuban oregano, basil, parsley, longetivity spinach, purslane, lantana, climbing dayflower, flame of the woods, crepe myrtles, mango, lychees, fig, bougainvilla, dragon fruit, queen of the night, jasmine, buttonwood, American persimmon, just to name a few. We have several bird families that nest yearly, lots of pollinators like honey bees, wasps, carpenter bees, dragonflies, giant yellow swallowtail butterflies, monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, many different varieties of moths. We have many animals that take refuge in my yard. My yard is a certified wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, a certified Florida Friendly Yard, and a pollinator pathway.
