We live in a lovely, mostly shady property, 1/3 of which is all woods - mostly oaks, birches, maples & sassafras.
I have spent at least five years trying to rid our yard of invasives, but it’s an ongoing battle that I am currently losing due to my need to also spend time with my children & family as well as other important things in life.
I have spent those same number of years planting more native plants, shrubs and trees. Shrubs & trees: Spice bush, Virginia sweetspire, viburnums, Summer sweet, ninebark, New Jersey tea, Bayberry, Bearberry, Winterberry, oakleaf hydrangea, swamp rose, virginia rose, red twig dogwood, (had many eastern dogwoods already), Eastern red bud, (had sassafras already)
Perennials: goldenrods, asters, blue eyed grass, celandine wood poppy, virginia bluebells, ferns, cardinal flowers, blue lobelia, white snakeroot, black & brown eyed susans, monkeyflower, mountain mint, joe pye, swamp milkweed, butterfly weed, bloodroot, violets, foxglove beard tongue, anise hyssop, bee balm, coreopsis, blue vervain, jacobs ladder
Annuals - the first native annual I found (winter sown from seed) - partridge pea
