Moved here in February 2025. Began immediately to replace lawn with native plants. We do have a few non-natives that pollinators love like Perovskia and Sedum, but most are native. We have been in drought this past summer, and the gardens did awesome due to deep root systems typical of native plants. Things are winding down now (11/1/25), but echinacea, asters, coreopsis and others are still blooming. Little Bluestem is beautiful!
Even though gardens are new, they have matured quickly. Lots of skippers, native bees and fireflies with some monarchs and frittilaries. Goldfinches have enjoyed the seeds from native sunflowers. We will begin expanding the gardens in spring.

These are some of the natives that we have established (not all):
Echinacea, Lanceleaf Coreopsis, Callirhoe, Bergamot, Rudbeckia, native Violets, Wild Geranium, Wild Strawberry, Downy Mint, Blue Ridge Buckbean, Agastache, Native Asters, Little Bluestem, Big Bluestem, Switchgrass, Muhly Grass
