Our steep front hill is covered with sun-loving flowering plants (mostly native) instead of grass. Flower beds along the side of the house and around the back yard are filled with shade dwellers.
Common milkweed, swamp milkweed, whorled milkweed, purple coneflowers, prairie coneflowers, columbine, pulmonaria, wild geranium, liatris, anise hyssop, monarda, boneset, wild strawberry, Solomon's seal, Mayapple, phlox, baptisia, hosta, St. John's wort, toad lily, hellebore, serviceberry, high bush cranberry, and others.
