The .25 acres started as a pesticide ridden area of lava rock, a few old woody exotic hibiscus and one large exotic strangler fig tree that had been topped for decades and all of its prop roots removed. The compromised strangler fig remains, while the exotic hibiscus and lava rock have been removed. Native plants went in and are thriving. Butterflies, bees, moths, wasps, dragonflies, flies, birds, squirrels, snakes have taken up residence. Parts of the parcel flood briefly during the wet season. Those areas were challenging in figuring out what plants can tolerate very long drought during the dry season and brief inundation during the wet season.
