Larger than usual urban lot, with wooded areas, mostly part or full shade, and smaller areas with full sun. Two rain gardens, one shady, another in sun. Almost all front and back is native. Have been documenting everything that lives here, and the diversity is amazing! My favorites are the giant swallowtail, which thrives on the prickly ash and comes back every year.
Typical prairie plants (bee balm, many kinds of cone flowers, big blue stem), gooseberry, anemones, lots of asters of all kinds, sedges, woodland geraniums, golden ragweed, various goldenrods, wild ginger, violets, milkweeds, thimbleweeds, bottlebrush grass, bloodroot, buttercups, various native grasses; oaks, cherries, persimmons, pawpaw, basswood, grapes, virginia creeper, silver and sugar maples, ash, elm, dogwood, prickly ash, witchhazel, hazelnut, serviceberry, redbud, american plum, mountain ash.
