Started in approx 2021 although some of my plants have been there since before 2000. By the end of 2024 there are 45 native species with about 5-10 more being added in 2025. I decided to go native because of my love for prairie plants. I was first introduced to a local prairie by my botany professor at SIUE. I also piloted Illinois Praire Watch where I taught. I decided I NEEDED some of those specialized plants (prairie dock & Compass Plant specifically) in my back yard. My favorite day was in 2023 when I walked out and there were 17 Monarchs on one Savannah Blazing Star. I was awestruck. Totally amazing.
