We have been at our home since 1993 and gradually have added thousands of trees, shrubs, and perennials to the property, gradually reducing the lawn areas. We have not limited the plants to only native plants so we have a wide variety of mostly deer resistant ornamental plants flowering from late winter to late fall. Myself being a landscape designer specializing in native meadows and perennials, our property has been a testing ground for discovering which plants do well in our local environment. At this point our property is a huge draw for birds and insects, either looking for pollinator plants, foraging for berries and seeds, or looking for cover from predators.
The amount of plants on our property is too extensive to list fully but a few of them are: Quercus palustris, acer rubrum, acer saccharum, cercis canadensis, cornus florida, various viburnum, itea, fothergilla, ilex, clethra, and thousand of ferns, grasses, sedges and perennials.
