Our school pollinator garden is a approximately 420 square foot planting area located on a gentle slope, designed to support native pollinators and enhance student learning. The garden includes a diverse mix of native shrubs and perennial flowering plants that provide season-long nectar and habitat resources.
The site is actively maintained by Mrs. Nork's AP Environmental Science students as part of hands-on ecological learning, with additional volunteer workdays held in the spring and summer to support weeding, mulching, and general upkeep. A key management challenge is ongoing control of invasive plant species, which students address as part of their stewardship efforts.
This garden serves as both a functional habitat space and an outdoor learning opportunity, promoting environmental awareness, sustainability practices, and community involvement in pollinator conservation.
Virginia rose, goldenrods, asters, common and butterfly milkweed, coreopsis, sweet fern, blueberry, chokecherry, common yarrow, arrowwood viburnum, blazing star, and others.
