I have been working on increasing native plants in our yard. The raised bed along our driveway is mostly native flowers along with Autumn Joy. In the spring we leave a patch of Robin's plantain unmowed in side yard and it provides an island of purple flowers full of buzzing bees. It has taken some time to see the butterflies come back this year but thus far we have seen several types of skippers, fritillaries, monarchs and some swallowtails. Planning on adding more islands of flowers in the front yard to replace lawn.
alternate leaf dogwood, crab apple tree, mountain laurel, redbud trees, various flowers including bee balm, echinacea, wild geranium, black eyed Susan, creeping phlox, golden Alexander, Robin's plantain, goldenrods, asters, fleabane, Columbine, yarrow, swamp and common milkweeds.
