Sacajawea Park is a 22 acre natural area along the Portneuf River. The majority of plants consisted of pasture grass, invasive Russian Olives, elms and various weeds. The Sacajawea Park Pollinator Project began in the fall of 2023 as a volunteer effort to increase pollinator habitat in the city of Pocatello. It has grown from 7,000 square feet to approximately 1.5 acres. Over 1800 plugs of native trees, shrubs, forbs and milkweeds have been planted to date. We have another 800-1000 seedlings slated to go in this spring of 2025. More than 250 milkweeds have been planted to support monarch butterflies.
