The Battery

State St & Battery Pl, New York, NY 10004, USA

The Battery has over 240,000 square feet of perennial gardens that are free and open to the public every day of the year. The majority of the gardens were designed by Piet Oudolf, starting in 2002. The newest gardens, designed for coastal resiliency projects, were created by Claudia West and Thomas Rainer. The Battery was one of the first public gardens in NYC to go pesticide free in 2017. Although the designers used native plants, we have acticely added more each year.
