Wild Wings & Little Feet is located on The western slope of the North Fork valley of the Gunnison at an elevation of 5676', It is high desert, hot and dry in the summer with poor mancos shale soil. The land was purchased in 2017 and had been used as a walking trail and a bike jump. Mostly eroded and denuded, what was growing were invasive weeds.

We began planting along a 240ft. sidewalk Im front of the property with natives, xeric species and hedgerows as an educational example Of

a habitat strip. Each year we have expanded the area of habitat including a small pond, small water features several large brush piles, vegetable gardens, chickens and eventually biol a small Strawbale home. Initially there were few birds or other species that visited the land. Now we have many birds, some frogs, snales and lizards, pollinators and wild animals. The land servs as a corridor to a large BLM tract of land. Four years ago we were

graced by a leucistic female oriole who nested and returns to the land every year, along with her numerous offspring. Build it and they will come! One potion of the land borders a small creek, the other side hosts a seasonal seep. Both areas support native cottonwood, maple and willow And other native specie. The Land lies within town boundaries and in an HOA And it now hosts hundreds of species; young trees, shrubs, natives, flowers, fruit, berries, hedgerows and many more bird and pollinator habitat plants.

We are members of National Wildlife Federation, Wild Ones and are a registered habitat Hero Garden. We have hosted school events, yours and workshops.
