Challenges: our property is on the Onondoga Escarpent. Limestone bedrock Is hit at about three feet down. We also have a Norway maple at the back of the property which impeded the life of much we have tried to plant. We don't want to take it down because it would put our yard in full sun and expose us to the elements.
We have seven trees ( 2 maples, 2 hemlocks, 2 eastern redbuds and 1 cherry) on our property. Also many perennials, to name a few: goldenrod, asters, Culver’s root, ironweed, hydrangeas, pokeweed, phlox, turtlehead, monarda, comfrey, anemones, swamp mallow, and coreopsis.
Bushes: elderberry, viburnum, serviceberry, summer sweet, currant and nanny berry. Also a Concord grape vine.
In 2026 we had a water feature installed with a 6’ stream that spills into a small pool. Surrounded by ferns, astilbe, creeping Jenny and annuals.
